BIO
Canada has produced many a fine poker player, and one of the finest and youngest is Waterloo Ontario’s Steve Paul-Ambrose.
His story is typical of many North American poker players, in that he developed and then honed his game at college, in his case
the University of Waterloo where he studied Business and Science.
And just like millions of other North American poker players, Paul-Ambrose and his college buddies watched transfixed as
then amateur, and now Team PokerStars Pro Chris Moneymaker converted a $39 satellite on PokerStars into a $2,500,000 payday when
he won the 2003 World Series of Poker* Main Event. That win inspired millions of players to concentrate their efforts, and Steve
Paul-Ambrose was one of them.
What is exceptional however about Steve’s poker journey is that he has been quick to build on his big debut win, including a hot
streak at the 2007 World Series.
It all kicked off for Steve in January 2006 when he satellited into, and then won, the World Poker Tour PokerStars.com Caribbean
Adventure $7,800 Main Event at Paradise Island in the Bahamas. That win saw the young man pocket $1,388,600 and he has not looked back,
claiming over $400,000 in tournament cashes since.
Notable results have included three money finishes at the 2007 WSOP* in Las Vegas, including a fourth place finish in the $5,000 World
Championship Mixed Hold'em event for $146,259. Also of note are a third place in a Bellagio Cup event, and his victory in the 2008
Canadian Open held in Calgary which netted Paul-Ambrose $33,296.
Away from the tables Steve can be found perfecting his swing on the golf course, and he also enjoys reading books and cooking. He married his high school sweetheart Nathalie in 2008, and she is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Math. Steve is
a member of Team PokerStars Pro and can be found playing online using the screen name ‘Stevejpa’.
